My Emmy recap.

The Emmys were filled with star-studded gowns and gorgeous up-dos last night.  There weren’t many fashions “misses” on the red carpet.  Almost all the stars looked perfect with many wearing metallics and pastel pinks.  I hope both of those trends creep their way into some more fall looks.  But until then, enjoy my Emmy picks for best dressed:

Jewel looked romantic in this lace gown.

Eva Longoria-Parker looked classic in this black ensemble.

Claire Danes looked breathtaking in this sparkled design.

Maria Menounos looked too good to just host the Pre-Emmy interviews.

Dianna Agron looked feminine in this lace detailed gown.

I die.

Rachel Zoe is back with a serious bang this season on The Rachel Zoe Project.  It is only fitting that the iconic stylist finally gets her own spread in a magazine.

Harper’s Bazaar profiled Rachel Zoe for their September issue.  The theme?  “I die”.  Literally.  Anyone who knows or watching Rachel Zoe knows that when a fashion “moment” happens, she dies. Harper’s Bazaar played with the “I die” phrase to make a killer photo spread.  Pun intended!

Bryan Atwood, Michael Kors, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs and Francisco Costa were all featured in Rachel’s five-page spread.  Bryan Atwood stabs Rachel with a stiletto, Marc Jacobs electrocutes her with a hair dryer, and Michael Kors buries her in a pile of stylish handbags.

I give much praise to Harper’s Bazaar.  This spread was genius.

Man up!

Feminine. Flirty. Headstrong. In control.  I love being a woman.  We get to play with fashion so much.  This season, playing with fashion includes taking a cue from the men in our lives.  Menswear is back in a big way this season.   Of course, the Bible (Vogue’s September Issue), did a spread highlighting the fashionable menswear looks for women.

For me, menswear is a necessary trend.  Menswear should be a staple in your wardrobe. A classic, tailored suit is something every women can have.  It boggles my mind when I hear young women do not own a tailored suit. How can you go on a job interview without one?  You can never go wrong wearing a conservative suit for an interview–so there is your excuse to go buy one!

Of course, man-style dressing is nothing new. It’s flitted in and out of fashion for decades, ever since the 1930s when Katharine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich became symbols of masculine glamour in tailored suits and ties.

Both Chloe and Alexander Wang have taken a dive into menswear with their collections.  Sometimes, it is difficult to make menswear still look feminine but these designers have kept a keen look and focus on the details.  By introducing cropped pants and cinched waists into their suit designs, the suits are strong, but still keep women looking sexy and beautiful.

For transitioning into Fall, we don’t all have to go out and buy black suits. It’s too boring.  Invest in some bold colors and have fun!

Accessories are sparkling.

I’m seeing more and more metallics creeping their way into Fall designs and I must say, I approve!  I always thought metallics, especially bright colored metallics, would be left to spring and summer designs.  I have no problem boosting some color into my winter wardrobe!  Both Kate Spade and Marc Jacobs have pretty and sparkled accessories for Fall this year.

I’ve been magnetic since I was a baby.

OH.MY.GOD.  Glam rock has been resurrected in Semi Precious Weapons.  An in-your-face, “unashamedly crass and deliciously animated ” band, as described by Vogue, has burst on the scene with a little thanks to Lady Gaga. (They are now touring with her on the Monster Ball Tour).

For those who are not familiar with Glam Rock (or Glitter Rock). It is a style of rock and pop music that developed in the UK in the early 1970s, which was performed by singers and musicians who wore outrageous clothes, makeup and hairstyles, particularly platform-soled boots and glitter. The flamboyant costumes and visual styles of glam performers were often androgynous, questioning the art of gender roles in society.  Glam rock visuals peaked during the mid 1970s with artists including David Bowie and the New York Dolls.

So it is fitting that Semi Precious Weapons is a band from NYC.  This band consists of Justin Tranter on vocals, Stevy Pyne on guitar, Cole Whittle on bass and Dan Crean on drums. They are resurrecting the uncomfortable, underground society of rock and glamour found in the 1970s. You may remember Justin Tranter as the coach on Made for MTV.  He coached a shy bassist who created her own band.

But not only is Justin Tranter a glam-rock god, he is also a fabulous jewelry designer.  His braille-glam jewelry line, Fetty, can be found at both Urban Outfitters and Barney’s, New York. The line has a serious rock edge, with pieces looking a tad disheveled.  Each piece in the collection, especially those found in the “Royalty” collection, are tough, but show a hint of glamour and sophistication. The designs include weapons, hearts, and diamond braille.  Included are unique textures and intricate detailing. Prices range from $10-$700.  Glamorous music + a knack for fashion = a stroke a pure genius!

Jersey Shore does shoes?

Well, not exactly.  Steve Madden designed a shoe entitled “Snooki”. The shoes look great, but have nothing to do with the infamous TV show.  Thank God. That show is a topic for another day. I live at the Jersey shore so, needless to say, I have many opinions about the representation of where I live. For those of you that follow my blog who aren’t from NJ, just know that most New Jerseyians are nothing like the show.

But anyway! Let’s get back on topic, shall we? Recently, Steve Madden renamed the shoe “Snobbie”.  My guess? Snooki wanted a piece of the revenue considering they “used” her copyrighted name.  Cry about it.  I really love the shoes though.  The shoe is flashy and a nice chunky heel.  Maybe Steve Madden had Snooki in mind when it named and/or designed the shoe.  “Snobbie” or “Snooki”, I don’t really care.  I’m all about the glamour!

Pixie Love.

Hello fabulous fashionistas!

I’m sure you saw my post on short hair a few posts ago.  So imagine my excitement when I saw the first pictures of Emma Watson’s new haircut!  She looks fantastic.  She has such a beautiful face so I believe this pixie style is perfect for her.  She looks absolutely gorgeous and I love it.

In the bedroom. (My 100th post!)

Sooo, in my fabulous dream life here is the scenario:

I am living in a gorgeous apartment in downtown Manhattan, working in fashion (preferably styling), and living the life of luxe and glamour in the most amazing city in the entire world.

Kate, wake up darling.  This will probably never happen.  But!  I love the idea of having a very romantic bedroom.  I think a bedroom should be someone’s sanctuary; a place to go when the world needs to disappear.  I came across a few designs that hopefully, one day, when I am super successful, I can recreate for my own home.

Until then, I’ll keep daydreaming.  Don’t hate, appreciate and enjoy!

Oh! And did I mention this is my 100th post?! Yeah, me!

It’s like being a kid all over again.

Do you remember jellies?  The awesome shoes from the late 80’s and early 90’s that, if you like me, you lived in for most of your young childhood.

Well, Moschino took the popularity of jellies and mixed the fabulous design work of plastic specialist, Kartell. The result: a fabulous and fun summer shoe design.

Moschino and Kartell’s shoes are made from different plastics and are decorated with a knot, which is  a trademark for the Italian label. These ballerina flats are called “BowWow” which pays homage to Moschino’s most iconic piece–the bow tie.

All of the shoes are 100% recyclable.  Looking fabulous and helping the environment? I dig it.
